The Morning Devotional: Psalm 115
Prayer: You alone, our God, deserve all glory, for you are the thrice-holy God of heaven and earth. You made us to praise you, but our sin gets in the way. You have revealed yourself to us, showing us who you are and what you do. Indeed, you are in the heavens, and you do whatever pleases you. We know that you do all things well, although we are often bewildered by your actions. Yet, you have told us that you are good and kind, a God full of mercy. You have demonstrated that mercy and love by giving us the Savior, your Son and our Lord. Although the nations rage and kingdoms question our love for you. we know that you will bring to ruin all those kingdoms of this earth. Although men made in your image turn to those things that can never satisfy, we know that you will destroy all idols of this world because you will share your glory with no one. Yet, Father, we know there are times when we are like the idol worshippers of old. Too often, Father, we give our love and allegiance to those things that should only be given to you. Too often we forget you and replace you with things that cannot satisfy our hunger and thirst – they cannot help our souls. Forgive us, Lord. Forgive us for turning our hearts to those things that we will become if we do not repent and look to you.
Father, you have saved us to love you and honor you. You have redeemed us to love you and worship you. You have given us many reasons to do so. You remember us. You do not treat us as we deserve. You bless those who fear you. You honor those who love you and walk in obedience to you. Please, our God, grant us the help we truly need to do what you command. We fall short, we know, but your Son has done what we cannot do. Therefore, grant us the promised Spirit to guide and help us; we pray and ask through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
