Daily Prayer for August 8, 2023: Psalm 87

Prayer: Our God in heaven: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, you are holy, and, as such, you built a holy building for your presence to dwell. In the days of old, you established your dwelling place on the holy mountain and called your people to yourself. The city and the temple are holy because you were in the midst of them. Now, due to the living temple, your Son and our Lord, you have purposed to dwell in and with your people, the true temple of God. As such, you love your church made up of all those who profess the true religion and their children. You look down upon her with great favor and delight because the blood of the Passover Lamb has purchased her. It is a building not made with hands but made due to your great favor and kindness in forgiving sins and forgetting them no more. Therefore, we praise you for your excellent work of salvation, and we praise you for the church of the Lord Jesus Christ, without which there is ordinarily no possibility of salvation. We pray for your church that it will be as holy as it can be. We ask that you purify her and make her glorious, spotless, and ready for her husband. We pray for the labors of your church that it would be useful salt and light in a dark and decaying world. We further ask that you would strengthen your officers and, especially, your ministers, that they would faithfully perform their duties agreeable to the worth and excellency of your redeemed people and the King and Head of the church. Please guide your holy city and the people of your possession by your grace and Spirit. Teach them to walk according to your ways and purposes, not leaning on their wisdom but only the wisdom that comes from your Word. These things we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
