Daily Prayer for April 27, 2023 (Psalm 68)

Prayer: Our great and mighty God, the one true and living God of heaven and earth and the true sovereign over the affairs of men, we bow before you with humility and awe today, mindful that you are holy and we are creatures of dust. We thank you for your gracious provision of your Son, with whom you are well pleased in that he offered his life as a ransom for many. For our sin, he became sin that we would have the righteousness of God imputed to us. Yet, we still wrestle with sin and those things that often trouble us. We daily face an irreconcilable war – the flesh warring against the Spirit, and the Spirit against the flesh. Yet, you have promised to forgive us as we ask, so we humbly request that you cleanse us from all unrighteousness.

We read your Word, and we see the many ways in which your people are troubled from within and without. Father, we live in perilous times and difficult circumstances. From the days of the first sin, your people have labored under the cruel hands of evil people fueled by their hatred for you and your chosen, redeemed people. Yet, your Word says that your enemies will be scattered and come to nothing. We read that we will rejoice when your justice is exacted upon the ungodly and wicked. As the people of old sang praises to you on the shores of the Red Sea, we, too, will do the same on that great day when we see your glorious Name vindicated and your people acquitted from all the wrong accusations levied against them. Therefore, Father, we pray that you would be pleased to save those who hate you. We ask for you to open their blind eyes so they would see for the first time their evil ways before you. Press on their consciences the reality of death and a life apart from you. If not, Father, we ask you to rise up against your enemies and vindicate those who are the apple of your eye. We pray for you to bear us up against the evil and wicked of our world, the culture that is at odds with you and your Word, and all those who hate your Son. May we behold your glorious justice, and may you alone be exalted through your righteous deeds in the affairs of men. These things we pray in the Name of the King of king and Lord of lords, Jesus Christ. Amen.
