Daily Prayer for February 16, 2023 (Psalm 41)

Prayer: Our Father, we thank you for your kindness to poor and helpless sinners. You have not only redeemed us and given us the hope of glory bought by the blood of Jesus Christ, but you have also cared for our physical needs. Because you have been kind to poor sinners, you demand that we also remember the poor and needy of our world. You require your children to remember their bondage and sin and to seek to minister to those who struggle with the physical and spiritual needs they have. Your Son modeled this for us as he, the exemplary deacon and exemplary elder, served the poor as he walked this earth. Please grant us a greater desire to help the weak of our world. Please forgive us for the times we pass them by ignoring them and failing to help them. Please help us to remember that we, too, were poor and needy, bankrupt in heart and mind, due to the sin that infects all of mankind. We, too, were miserable creatures with no hope at all, yet, due to your lovingkindness and grace, you rescued us, placed us firmly in your family room, called us sons and daughters, and showered us with blessings — spiritual and temporal. Therefore, Father, please grant us the opportunity to serve the weakest of our community. Please break our hearts for the hurting and dying of our world and burden us with the gospel for our friends, loved ones, and those who come across our path. Please help us to set our priorities in order and not seek our kingdom but the one that offers the kingdom to those who are poor in this world. These things we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
