Daily Prayer for the Lord’s Day: February 11, 2024

Prayer: Grant to us, our God, delight in the day you have made. Out of your abundant loving-kindness, you have granted us one day in seven in which you call us out of the world to find rest in your presence as a picture of that eternal blessedness to come. Grant, we plead with you to help us through the Eternal Spirit to love the Lord’s Day with all the hopes, expectations, comforts, and conviction it begins for your weary and exiled people. Forgive us, Father, for the many ways we trample underfoot this day you have given to us as a gift for our souls. Forgive us for our lack of zeal to prepare for worship and the preaching of your Word. Please help us not to be like the visible church of old that disregarded the voice of the prophets as they warned them of the judgment to come. Please give us ears to hear from your Word as those set apart to labor and feed your sheep the good food that the Good Shepherd promises to all those who love him. Please move in such a way that we hear the voice of the Savior today as he continues to guide and direct his people. Please help us not only to listen but also to learn the oracles of the faith once delivered to the saints. Please cause us to raise our voices heavenward, praising you for your abundant mercies and grace. We know that we do not deserve the least of your mercies, but in Christ, there is no longer any condemnation. Instead, we are your children and you, our Father. So, help us, holy Father, to serve and love you today as you have commanded. Please give us what you command we ask and pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Daily Prayer for the Lord’s Day: February 4, 2024

Prayer: Our Father, we thank you and praise you for the mercy and grace that pursues us throughout our lives. We are like sheep, and we often go astray. Yet, in Christ, you have given us a Good and Faithful Shepherd that we can follow with great security and peace. He gives us all that we need and leads us to peace and safety because of his love for us. We thank you for causing us to proclaim, “The Lord is my Shepherd,” because you have rescued us from the land of misery and placed us in your pasture. Yet, there are times that we stray from that place of peace. Sometimes, we confess, we go our way instead of the way mapped and planned by the Savior. We are thankful that he seeks us and brings us back during those times. We thank you that he will comfort and guide us all our days and bring us to where you are in the New Heavens and New Earth. Forgive us, Father, for the ease in which we wander from your commands. Please help us to follow our Shepherd wherever he leads us. Please give us more of your grace today as we hear from him the preaching of your Word. We pray these things through Christ, our Lord. Amen.

Daily Prayer for July 13, 2023

Prayer: Grant, Almighty God, that you would be willing to help your redeemed people as they journey the narrower path that leads to life. We are thankful to you for your infinite wisdom as we move from day to day, navigating the various twists and turns that the narrow path follows. As in the church of old, you led them by your mighty hand, and we ask that you will do the same for us today. We beg you, our God, to help us lean not on our own understanding of things but instead trust you with all our being.  We beg of you to remember us for good and remember your promises to help us when we are weak, granting to us your all-sufficient grace. We confess to you that we are like sheep that easily wander. We pray that you, the Good Shepherd, would tend to our every need as we learn to trust you. We further ask that you remember us for good, blessing us with your grace and strengthening us by your Spirit. We ask that you keep us invited to the True Vine, strengthening us because of his work that rescues us from our sins. May you bless and keep us, we ask, for the sake of Christ our Lord. Amen.

Daily Prayer for July 5, 2023

Prayer: Our God in heaven, you who are holy and righteous, the only true God of heaven and earth, the God who is full of lovingkindness and grace and always does what is good and right in the lives of his people, we bow before you because we are a needy and desperate people. We confess to you own weaknesses — those that show up in our minds, emotions, actions, and, sadly, in our hearts. We are creatures of dust. We are a pitiful people. We often wander from your commandments. We often forget the promises of hope that you extend to the sheep of your pasture. We know that there are seasons of plenty in which we know your presence and are thankful for the comfort of your hand that guides and leads us. We know there are seasons of dryness in which we wonder where you have gone and why you will not help us. We know that in those times of great struggle, you have not left or abandoned us. You cannot do that, for you have promised never to leave or forsake us. Yet, Lord, there are times when we are weary of the pilgrimage.

There are times when we grow tired of the constant onslaught of others. We mourn our existence and cry out as the Psalmist, “How long, O Lord?” Please teach us your ways. Please grant us comfort that can only come from you. Men will fail us. People will exhaust us. The troubles of this life are legion. Yet, you, Lord, are good and will gently and carefully walk us through the darkest valleys for your people’s good and the glory of your name. Please rescue us from any doubt that you love us and show forth your grace and kindness today and every day we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.

Daily Prayer for January 17, 2023 (Psalm 23)

Prayer: Our Father, you who are great and glorious, the thrice holy God, we stand in awe of your kindness and grace today because you have given us many things in your Word to comfort us and help us in our journey in this sin-filled world. As your redeemed people, we have confidence that you will lead us and guide us in the way that is good for us. You are our Shepherd, and we are your sheep. You care for us and help us, and lead us to places that are good for us. We draw confidence from the words that tell us that we will never lack any good thing. You encourage us with the hope of rest, an eternal rest, thus restoring our souls by leading us in the paths of righteousness. You give us your Son, the great Shepherd of the sheep, that we might not fear or fret when we face difficulty. We draw comfort from your promise that you will be with us through times of hardship, never leaving us alone but always giving us what we need. We thank you for pursuing us with goodness and mercy all of our days, and we look forward to dwelling in your house forever. Therefore, Father, please help us to trust in your divine purposes and plans for our lives. Please grant us an increase of trust in your leading and guiding us, for we know that you will never lead us astray. Please help us to walk with you all of our days, and may we live as you have told us, all to the praise of the Passover Lamb who laid down his life for the sheep. These things we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
