The Westminster Confession of Faith 23.2

II. It is lawful for Christians to accept and execute the office of a magistrate when called thereunto;a in the managing whereof, as they ought especially to maintain piety, justice, and peace, according to the wholesome laws of each commonwealth,b so, for that end, they may lawfully, now under the New Testament, wage war upon just and necessary occasion.c

Daily Prayer for December 7, 2022 (Psalm 2)

Daily Prayer for December 7, 2022 (Psalm 2)

Prayer: Our Great God and King, we bow before your majesty as the ruler of all things and sovereign over all you have made. We bow before you as the one true God of heaven and earth, and there is no other. We bow before you because you deserve our reverence, adoration, and praise. You have redeemed us and, therefore, opened our eyes to behold you and see that you alone rule and govern all your creatures and all their actions. Yet, many in the world rebel against you and your Anointed, the Lord Jesus Christ. Professing to be wise, they have become fools. You hold them in derision. You warn them to repent of their foolishness and look to your beloved Son. We pray, O God, that you would be pleased to turn the hearts of our leaders to you. We pray that you would open their eyes to see and behold your beauty in the face of your only begotten Son. We plead with you to turn the hearts and minds of our leaders to you, for only you can make dead bones live. We further ask that you protect us from evil actors in this world and not allow these leaders to harm your church. We know that your wise and holy counsel determines all that you do, and we trust that you know what is best for us. Yet, we still pray on behalf of these leaders that you would rescue them from their sins. These things we pray in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ, the King of kings and Lord of lords. Amen.
