Daily Prayer for October 19, 2023: Psalm 117

Prayer: Our God, we know you made man in your image to worship and glorify you. Yet, due to sin, man has fallen away from that primary purpose and now wanders in darkness, arrogantly boasting of their accomplishments and behaving in rebellious ways against you. Though we grieve that truth, and though we know that we, too, once wandered in darkness, shaking our fist in your face, stubbornly rebelling against you, we do praise you for opening our eyes and ears to the truth and hope of the glorious gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. We have many reasons to praise you. You have saved us from the land of bondage. You have blessed us with your presence. You have given us many promises that are ‘yes and amen’ in the Lord Jesus. You provide us with our daily bread. We are very thankful for you when tempted because you uphold and sustain us. You tell us of a glorious end to all those who persevere in the faith once delivered to the saints. You hear us when we pray and have given us your Word in our language. You have revealed yourself in your Word, and we see your greatness on every page. Your love is steady, firm, and without change. Your faithfulness is new every morning. For these reasons and many more, we praise you today. We stand in awe of who you are and what you have done for poor, helpless sinners. Receive our words of praise, as weak as they are, from the lips of men, and glorify yourself, our God. We bless your name today and know that our help is in the name of the Lord, the maker of heaven and earth. We praise you in the name of your beloved Son, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
