Daily Prayer for October 14, 2023

Prayer: Our Father in heaven, you alone are holy, and we stand in awe of you because you are good and great, a God of lovingkindness and compassion. We are thankful that you have not treated us as our sins deserve, but instead, you have buried them in the deepest ocean and separated them as far as the East is from the West. We know you have done this because of the redeeming work of your beloved Son, who came to serve and not be served, offering his life as a ransom for many. Though we belong to you and know you have given us great hope for the future and the promise of the New Heavens and the New Earth, you have determined to leave us here to pilgrim through this world full of sin and misery. We notice how creatures made in your image daily suppress the truth in unrighteousness. In recent days, we have witnessed some of the vilest of atrocities. We are seeing wars being carried out and, therefore, the death of many. Though these behaviors repulse us, we know that we would commit the same things if not for your grace poured out on us. Therefore, Father, please help us to walk humbly with you. Please help us to watch and pray lest we, too, enter into temptation and fall grievously before you. Please help us to redeem the time because the days are evil. Please help us to remember that we are creatures of dust in desperate need of your help.

We pray for the many in this world who have recently been subjected to acts of violence. We pray that you would soothe them with the healing of the gospel of your dear Son. We pray that if they are apart from you, you will open their eyes and ears to the hope of Christ and your Word. We pray for our brothers and sisters caught up in difficult matters. We ask that you will be pleased to help them persevere through these challenging times. We ask that you remember your faithfulness and show yourself the God of mercy to them. We’d like to ask that your justice be seen on this earth and that those who commit vile acts against others will be brought to justice. We ask for a speedy end to the hostilities and great wisdom for the leaders involved. We ask that your kingdom come and your will be done on earth as in heaven. These things we pray through the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.

Daily Prayer for September 13, 2023: Psalm 103:1-5

Prayer: As we come to you today, our Father and sustainer, we first want to thank you for the many blessings you give to your undeserving people daily. There is no moment that you do not see and watch over us, guiding our steps and strengthening our hearts so we can walk according to your Word. We bless your name today because you have given us the joy of salvation that your beloved Son purchased with his blood. We bless your name today because you forgive us when we falter and fail and when we transgress your law, turning to other things. Though we mourn the reality of indwelling sin, we praise you because you are a God who delights to forgive his children. We bless your name today because you have redeemed our life from the pit of misery just as you did when you rescued Joseph from where his brothers put him. You have placed our feet on the solid rock, which is Christ. We bless your name today because you satisfy us with good things that you wisely give us. We thank you that you do not always give us what we want or desire, but, as a wise and loving Father, you sometimes withhold things from us for our good. We bless your name for guiding us each day, teaching us to trust you with all of our hearts. Though we confess that we often behave as thankless people, we do love and adore you, the God of our salvation, asking that you will be pleased to grant us more of your Spirit as we seek to glorify you in all things this day. We ask these things, not in our name, but in the name above every name, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
