Prayer: Our Father in heaven, we rejoice with great joy because you have given us this day, fashioning it and ordering it according to your divine purpose. In six days, you created all things seen and unseen. On the seventh day, you rested from your labors, giving us an example to follow. You set that day apart from the rest of creation week, calling it holy and calling us to regard it as holy by framing our entire day around the public and private exercises of your worship. You gave us this day for our good that we might enjoy you and your people, gathering together to praise you with one voice and heart and to hear from you as your Word is proclaimed. Though you have been kind to give us the Lord’s Day, because of indwelling sin, we do not always regard it as you command. Too often, Father, we wander from the purpose of the day, doing our pleasure, going our way. Forgive us and help us. Please change our hearts, attitudes, and minds so that we will love this day and rejoice in it, as it is a picture of the eternal Sabbath that you are preparing for all those who love you. Please grant us more of your Spirit and meet with us as promised. Please bless us with your presence in the public gathering of your people and speak, Lord, for your servants are listening. We pray these things in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
