Prayer: Grant almighty God that your people called by your name would humble themselves and pray for an outpouring of your Spirit as they gather for public worship on another Lord’s Day fashioned by your hands and given to us as help on our journey in this world. Grant, we pray thee, an abundance of your Spirit to be poured out on those men called by you and set apart by your Spirit to preach your Word. As your redeemed people, we confess our need for this day that reminds us of the glorious promise of an eternal rest free from the miseries this life offers. Indeed, this life is passing away. It is full of hardship, sadness, pain, and sorry. Yet, you have given us your Son. Though subjected to the fear of death and a life of slavery, you have been pleased to redeem us from these things. May we hear of Him today. May you grant a special measure of grace to those who are determined to preach Christ and him crucified. We plead with you to open our ears and minds to the truth of the preached Word. We confess that we are often slow to hear. We confess that we do not always meditate and confer with what we hear. Like those who heard your voice and saw your works in the days of old, sometimes we are like them. Please forgive us and help us to obey what we hear, Father. Be pleased to pour out your Spirit on your church and purify her today with your Word we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
