Prayer: Our Father in heaven, we come to plead with you, the one and true God of heaven and earth. You alone have made all things by the word of your power. You called all things into existence in the space of six days, and all very good. You have made us in your likeness and redeemed us from sin, calling us out of darkness into your marvelous light. We come as your creatures, laboring under the effects of this fallen world and often wrestling with despair and hopelessness. Like the Psalmist, We wrestle through those “dark nights of the soul” when our hearts are hurting and our souls weakened. Yet, you have given us the Lord Jesus Christ, who will not break the bruised reed and will not quench the faintly burning wick. You are pleased to hear our cries for mercy and comfort because you see us hidden in your beloved Son. Therefore, holy Father, please hear us as we gather on another Lord’s Day. Hear us as we cry out to you, and please cause us to hear from you as you minister to us through the eternal Spirit. We plead for your Word to go forth with great power from on high, knowing that it will not return void but accomplish all your purposes. These things we pray through the One who entrusted his soul to you, the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
