Prayer: Grant to your redeemed people, O God, the desire and delight to worship you as you have commanded on this, another Lord’s Day. We thank you for this one day in seven that is a picture of that heavenly rest you have promised to your church. We praise you that you are a God who will not change; therefore, the promise of the heavenly Zion remains. Through this promise, you give us hope as we pilgrim through this sin-wrecked world. Yet, you offer this promise of hope and give us one day in our busy week to come aside from our worldly cares and recreations to worship you and fellowship with your people. We confess, Father, that we do not always take advantage of it. Too often, we grin and bear it and get through it only to find all the cares we were to leave behind waiting for us. This shows that we have too much worldliness in our hearts. Please forgive us, Lord. Please purge those things that distract us and take us away from what is good. These things we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
