Prayer: Most holy Father, we drop to our knees in reverence and awe of your majesty and grace as the one true King of heaven and earth. We come to you with pleading hearts, asking for a sense of your presence as we gather to worship you today. We ask because we are in desperate need of your help and strength, for we are pilgrims living in a strange land. We plead for your church today, asking for you to strengthen and keep it, guiding it according to your Word. We ask that as we gather today, we would take back those strongholds that have been captured by the enemy of our souls and advance your kingdom, exalting the true King and hearing from him as the Word of God is opened, read, proclaimed, and heard. We pray for a measure of your grace in the proclamation of your Word pleading for the help of the Holy Spirit as it is preached. We further ask that through your love and kindness, you will open our eyes and ears to hear the truth as given from your Word and then do what we hear.
Forgive us, Father, for our many sins and transgressions. We wound and hurt others. We fail to consider the needs of our brothers and sisters. We fall short in decisions we must make, often failing to ask for your wisdom and grace as we make them. Forgive your people, Lord, for the many ways they seek their kingdom and not yours. Though we are a miserable bunch, you have determined to redeem us and make us like your beloved Son. So, we ask that on this day, you will remind us of the glorious hope of seeing our Lord, being with him, and being like him for eternity. These things we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
