Prayer: Our most holy and gracious God, you who sit enthroned upon the cherubim, and who is great and mighty, exalted above the peoples, we come to pray and plead with you for the things we need this very day. We thank you for giving us the Lord’s Day as a reminder of your redeeming work in our lives and the promise and hope we have of an eternal rest. We thank you for calling us to your holy throne room to honor and worship you. Though we are creatures of dust, and though your church has largely dismissed the importance of this day as taught in your Word, we come nonetheless to worship and praise you. Forgive us, Father, for our lack of zeal for you as reflected in our lack of zeal for the Lord’s Day. You graciously give this day to us for our good. You have said that the Sabbath was made for man and not man for the Sabbath. Yet, due to our rebellion, we fight against that great gift you give and profane it with things of this life that are passing away. Forgive us, Father. Forgive your church, Lord! Please help us! Convict those who need your Spirit’s work and bring them to true repentance in this area. Please give us a greater love for you and, therefore, for this day because you have said that if you love me, you will keep my commandments. These things we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
