Prayer: Our God, we confess to you the struggles of this life as we pilgrim to our heavenly rest and that better country that you are preparing for all those who love you. We lament our fallen condition and mourn indwelling sin. We grieve over the sins of our lives and that of others. We do not wish to be like the wicked priests of Hosea’s day who fed on the sins of your people. Instead, O Lord, we want our hearts to break over the mess people make of their lives due to sin. We know that your Word tells us to live holy lives, but we confess that it is often a great struggle. We confess and lament these bodies of death that succumb so easily to illness and disease. Who will rescue us from these things? Praise be to you for giving us your Son and our Redeemer. May you help us today, O Lord! May you bless us with your presence as we gather as one people with one voice, praising the God of heaven who has not left us to our own devices and has not treated us as our sins deserve. May you speak to us through your Word. Speak, Lord, for your servants are listening. Teach us your ways, our God, and help us by the eternal Spirit to walk humbly with you, confess our sins, and trust in the forgiveness you promise to give. We pray for these things through Christ our Lord. Amen.
