Prayer: Our God, you who are good and kind, a God who is full of compassion, mercy, and love for your people, we praise you and thank you for your infinite wisdom in giving us one day in seven that we might be reminded of who you are, what you have done for sinners, and the promise and hope of the eternal rest that awaits all those who love you. We thank you for giving us the Lord’s Day, calling it holy, and setting it apart from all the other days of the week so we can publicly and privately worship you, the one worthy of our love and affection. We further thank you for the fellowship of your people as we gather together as one body to hear from you today. We pray that you will meet with your redeemed people today, speaking plainly from your Word as it is read and preached. We ask that you would cause us to see something of your glory and majesty as we sing praises to you, ascribing glory, honor, and strength to you. Forgive us, Father, for the many ways in which we do not take seriously the beauty of this day. Forgive us for doing our pleasure instead of yours. Please grant us a willingness of mind and heart to serve you on the day you have made for us and help us to enjoy it, delighting in it because of the One who made it. Please help us to rejoice and be glad, for this is the day you have made. We pray these things through Christ our Lord. Amen.
