Prayer: Our most holy God: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, your Word teaches us to pray for kings and all those in authority over us. We confess that we often complain more than pray for them. We confess that we murmur and grip about their actions and attitudes instead of pleading with the one who holds the king’s heart in his hand for the salvation of their souls. We confess that our attitudes about our leaders are far from that which you command, leading us to behave in ungodly ways about them. Forgive us, Father. We acknowledge that you are the only sovereign over all that you have made. We further acknowledge that you have appointed these leaders over us for your good pleasure and glory as you use them for the good of your church. Though we cannot adequately explain the reasons, we know that you have told us these things and asked your people to trust you. Therefore, Father, please help us to trust what you are doing, even as we confess and admit that we struggle to understand. We know that you are working all things for the good of your church. We thank you for your kindness and patience with us. We pray for our leaders, asking that you would be pleased to rescue them from the sin that has blinded their eyes and hardened their hearts. We ask that you, the God who delights in the forgiveness of sin, would rescue them with the hope of the Gospel found only in your beloved Son. Please help them to see and please help them to hear the good news found in the one who never turns away a sinner that comes to him. These things we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
