Prayer: Almighty God and sovereign over all things and all affairs of this life, we stop to consider the work of your hands and how you order and accomplish all of your holy will in your children’s lives. When we consider your work — the moon, the stars, and all that you have made, we stand in awe that you would be mindful of those things that weary and burden your people. Father, we are often assailed from within and without by circumstances of this life. We confess that your divine will is not always easy to understand or endure. Sometimes in our lives, you will take us through hard places. Some circumstances affect us that leave us shaken in our souls and cause us to strive to reason through them, but at the end of all of it, we are still left confused and bewildered. We know that these matters come to us from your loving hand. As a Father, you take pity on your people and demonstrate great compassion though we often struggle to see it. Though the world rages and the mountains be moved, your promises to us are still the same and will never change. You, Lord, have promised to sustain us in times of hardship. You have promised to be with us in the deep waters of this life. You have told us that the raging fires of this fallen world will not overwhelm us. You have told us that you love us and will never leave us. Though we often tremble and fear and often fail, we are thankful that you will not abandon us to our weaknesses and struggles. Therefore, holy Father, please remember your covenant faithfulness and help us trust your divine will come what may in our lives. Further, we pray that you would teach us what we must learn, knowing that all things work for good to those who are the called according to your purpose. Please use those dark providences to conform us more to the image of the Lord Jesus Christ.
We pray, Father, that we would be a people of great grace as you are a God of grace. We pray that you will cause us to be patient and kind to others in our lives. We pray that we will learn to bear one another’s burdens and weep with those who weep. We ask and plead that you would teach us the law of love and strive to live it in the face of opposition and turmoil. We pray that we will not revile in kind towards those who seek to hurt us. We pray that as Christ loves his enemies, we will do the same. These things we pray, knowing that they are agreeable to your will, trusting that you will grant us an extra measure of your Spirit today to do what is right, godly, holy, and well-pleasing before you. Please help us we ask through Christ our Lord. Amen.
