Prayer: Grant to us, our most holy God, a measure of the Holy Spirit that we can put to death the deeds of the flesh. Though we are united to you through the work of the Lord Jesus Christ, we confess that we often fail to mortify those things that displease you. We further confess that though we are definitely sanctified through the crosswork and subsequent resurrection of Christ, there is still much work to do in conforming us to the image of Christ. Please, our God, help us to perform this Christian duty to mortify sin because we know that “to not mortify sin is tantamount to denying Christ and repudiating both the cross and our union with him on it. It is to deny the Spirit who brings the benefits of Christ and his cross into the heart.” We are ashamed of how easily we give birth to sin in our lives. WE plead your forgiveness, asking that you would cause to us to kill that which will kill us. Please help us to meditate on the work of Christ and the fruit of your Spirit. Please give us more love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, and self-control. Please cause us to walk according to your Word, and please do so for the sake of Christ we ask in his name. Amen.
