Prayer: Our God, there are times when we, as your redeemed people, feel like we will be overrun by the evil of our day. Like the psalmist, we cry out to you in holy lament as we often think the water will overwhelm us and we will sink to the ocean’s depths and never be seen again. We confess that there are times when we cry out and wonder if you hear us. We cry and cry, and it seems you are deaf toward us. We wait forever, it seems, for you, our God, to help us and save us. There are times, our Father, when we think the problems of our day are more than all the hairs of our head. They seem to come one after another, marching in to destroy us. Yet, we still cry out to you, for you are the only one who can help and rescue us from all that is wrong in this world. Our prayers are to you, O LORD, and we wait for you to answer us and vindicate us in your acceptable time. We know that your steadfast love for us will never change. We know you are merciful and regard us as the apple of your eye. We know that you will bring salvation to your people for you, O God, are great and mighty, and you work all things according to the counsel of your most righteous and holy will. Therefore, regardless of our circumstances, we will praise you. We will lift our voices to you and exalt you. No evil thing can come to us as you promised us a glorious end in the New Heavens and the New Earth. Forgive us, Father, for the many times we doubt you. Forgive us for our anxiety and worry. Forgive us for forgetting that you are for your people. Please help us by the Eternal Spirit to love you more and rest in your divine will. These things we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
