29 Ascribe to the Lord, O heavenly beings,
    ascribe to the Lord glory and strength.
Ascribe to the Lord the glory due his name;
    worship the Lord in the splendor of holiness.

The voice of the Lord is over the waters;
    the God of glory thunders,
    the Lord, over many waters.
The voice of the Lord is powerful;
    the voice of the Lord is full of majesty.

The voice of the Lord breaks the cedars;
    the Lord breaks the cedars of Lebanon.
He makes Lebanon to skip like a calf,
    and Sirion like a young wild ox.

The voice of the Lord flashes forth flames of fire.
The voice of the Lord shakes the wilderness;
    the Lord shakes the wilderness of Kadesh.

The voice of the Lord makes the deer give birth
  and strips the forests bare,
    and in his temple all cry, “Glory!”

10 The Lord sits enthroned over the flood;
the Lord sits enthroned as king forever.
11 May the Lord give strength to his people!
May the Lord blessd] his people with peace!

(Psalm 29, ESV)

Prayer: Our God in heaven: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we come to you today to do as King David did so long ago. We come to ascribe to you the glory that is due to your name. You are majestic and beautiful, and your voice speaks throughout all creation. Each day we witness your power and might as your proclaim your glory through all that you made. We bow before you each morning, thankful that you have given your godly one’s sleep. We rise to face a new day in which your faithfulness is new, in which you show forth your kindness and compassion on weak, dependent, and sinful creatures. We move through our day desirous of seeking first your kingdom and righteousness.

Father, forgive us for knowing what we are to do — to glorify you with every ounce of our being — and failing to do it. We regret our hypocritical nature and ways. We grieve our transgressions and lack of zeal for you. We desire to do all that you have told us — to walk humbly with you. Help us, by the eternal Spirit, to strive to do what you command. Indeed, we plead with you to give us what you command for your sake and ours.

Today, we pray for your church wherever she may be found. We ask that you purify her and cleanse her, and make her a beautiful bride for your Son. We pray for those men, called by your Spirit, who will speak your words on the Lord’s Day. We ask that you will guide their minds and hearts as they labor in the study. We ask that you will give them insight into your eternal Word, and equip them to spread a bounty before your people as they sit and hear from you in the preaching of your Word. Protect them and help them. We also ask that you would begin to prepare your people for worship. May they set their minds on things above and not on this earth. Be pleased, Father, to open their eyes and ears to the truth of your Word so they may bring forth the fruit of it in their lives. We pray these things in the name of your Son, the Good Shepherd of the Sheep, and the head of the church. Amen.
