Prayer: Our God, we cry aloud to you with great confidence that you will hear us because your Word tells us that you care for every need and every burden we have in this life. Without you, our Father, we would be a people to be pitied. Who else knows our frame and knows that we are dust? Who else understands our struggles? We are thankful that we have a sympathetic high priest who suffered as we do and was tempted as we are, yet ministers for us daily at your right hand. Therefore, Father, we can come to you in a day of trouble, seeking your face and wisdom, knowing that you will work exceedingly, abundantly beyond all we ask or think. Yet, Father, there are times in our lives when the burdens of it weigh us down. There are times when we want to quit trying. Sometimes we begin to think that your steadfast love has ended. We confess that we easily doubt you. We acknowledge that we quickly forget your promises that will never come to an end because you are not a God who can lie. Please help us, Lord, to remember the many ways you have helped us. Please grant us the insight to ponder your ways and Word. Please help us to know that your ways are not our ways. Please give us the comfort and encouragement of your Spirit as we journey from this life to the one to come. We thank you that you will never leave us or forsake us and will, as in the days of old, lead us as a Good Shepherd. Please grant us, our God, the willingness to say and believe, “Not my will but yours be done, O God.” These things we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
