Prayer: Our God in heaven: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we bow before you today as the sovereign Lord of heaven and earth. You alone are good, and you alone are just, working all things according to the counsel of your own infinitely wise will. All things that happen to us — good or evil — are designed to conform us to the image of the Lord Jesus Christ. Yet, we confess, our Father, that there are times in our lives when we face great hardship at the hands of evil and wicked people. Like the man after your own heart, we also cry out and proclaim that many rise against us. We confess that we find those times difficult. Indeed, Father, they are not pleasing and bring us distress of every kind. Worse are those times when attacks come from within the visible church, from those who profess faith in Christ. Sometimes, we face opposition from those within the visible community of believers. Those times are difficult, Lord. We face them, often with disbelief and despair. Why, O Lord, must we be subjected to the vile nature of those who say they know you? For what purpose do you bring those times into our lives? We see your church attacked by those within her and wonder, ‘Where is our God?” Yet, we know that you are our shield and the lifter of our heads. Though there are times in these circumstances when our heads hang low and we feel assaulted on every side, we know that your Word plainly tells us that you encourage and defend us. So, Father, defend your church and her officers from those attacks that are slanderous, evil, fabricated around gossip, and, flat out lies. Plese help us to trust you in these difficult times and may you be pleased to use them for your glory and our good. Please rise up and save us, we ask, for the sake of Christ and his kingdom. Amen.
