Praying through the Westminster Shorter Catechism
Prayer 9
Westminster Shorter Catechism Q4
Q. 4. What is God?
A. God is a spirit, infinite, eternal, and unchangeable, in his being, wisdom, power, holiness, justice, goodness and truth.
Prayer: Our Father in heaven, it is with great love and adoration that we bow before you humbly, yet boldly, to offer our prayers of praise, adoration, and supplication to you. We praise you for your infinite wisdom in that you have confounded the minds of men with the simple and free offer of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ. We praise you for the wisdom that is found in your holy Word and for the blessing we have, as your children, to ask for wisdom whenever we need it. We thank you that your knowledge and wisdom are beyond finding out in that you know the end from the beginning. Because you are infinitely wise, we can trust you with whatever happens in our lives.
We confess to you, our God, that we often fail to seek your face in times of trouble. Far too often, we rely on our understanding of matters instead of seeking your wisdom in them. Forgive us and help us to seek your face, and to trust in you in all things that affect our lives.
We pray for our nation today. We ask that you would open the eyes and ears of our leaders. We ask that you would humble the arrogant and exalt the humble. We desire to see righteous leaders governing our daily affairs. May you bring the Gospel to those that you have placed in these positions. We ask this and all things, in the name of Christ, for the sake of your glory and the good of your church. Amen.
