Prayer: Our great and majestic God, we humbly bow before your throne today to offer our prayers of praise, thanksgiving, and supplication to you. We confess our great need for you because we live in a sin-wrecked, ruined world and are sinners — creatures of dust. We struggle each day to glorify you in all that we do. We allow ourselves to worry and fret about circumstances we cannot change. We borrow trouble from tomorrow and allow it to trouble us today. We worry about the actions of wicked people. We tremble at the threatening of gossipers and slanders. Through all of these things, we forgot that you as our God are our refuge and strength, a very present help in times of trouble. We confess that we often forget about the great lessons of your Word. We fail to remember how you cared for your struggling and suffering people as they languished in Egypt. We forget that you brought them out of that land of bondage, over the Red Sea, destroying all of their enemies. We forget that you provided for their needs as they journeyed to the place of promise. We forget that you have made us promises and have told us that you are the God of providence, working all things according to the counsel of your will. We forget that these acts that flow from your throne are designed for the good of your church. Indeed, we are forgetful people! Forgive us, Father. Please remind us of your constant care and love for us today. Please encourage us in times of great trouble. Please remind us of your promise to persevere and bring us safely to our heavenly rest. Please sustain us with what we need today and remove from us those troubling thoughts of tomorrow.
We pray for our world and our nation. You have commanded us to pray for kings and all in high positions. Therefore, we pray that you would open their eyes to their need for the Lord Jesus Christ. We plead with you for their souls because it is you alone that changes the hearts of men. Please, our Father, be pleased to bring them to repentance and faith. We ask that you stay your hand of judgment against them but, instead, save them to the glory of your name. We ask that you would bring revival and repentance to our nation. We pray that you would be pleased to cleanse and purify your church and make her ready for her Husband, the Lord Jesus, in whose name we pray. Amen.
