Prayer: Father, we thank you and praise you for giving us the church of the Lord Jesus Christ. As the bride of Christ, we are grateful that you are pleased to use her to advance the kingdom of the Lord Jesus Christ in the world. Though there are many false sons in her pale and many who mistreat her from within and without, we know that the church is being perfected and cleansed day after day, ready to receive her husband, the Lord Jesus Christ. Through the church, we thank you that the means of grace are communicated: your holy Word, prayer, and the sacraments of baptism and the Lord’s Supper. We know that you gave these things to us to help us and sustain us. Forgive us, Father, for the many ways we mistreat the bride of your dear Son. We confess, and readily admit, that we would never tolerate the kind of treatment we give to your Son’s bride toward our spouses. Too often, we live and behave as though we do not need the church. We confess our failure to make your worship the highest priority of our week. We take it as quickly as we leave it. Too often treat the church for what we can get from it and not what we can give to it. Please forgive us and help us to treat the bride of Christ with reverence and awe giving it the dignity she deserves we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
