Prayer: Our God in heaven: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we bless your Name today as the only true God of heaven and earth. You are the alone creator of all things, and all things belong to you. You guide all the affairs of men through your divine will, accomplishing everything that you purpose to achieve for the Glory of your Name and the good of your church. You made man after your image, yet man rebelled and sinned before you. You are making all things new in Christ and are laboring to bring your people to that beautiful end when the full effect of the fall is reversed, and we dwell in your presence. We thank you for the covenant promise that you will be our God, and we will be your people, and you will dwell in our midst.
We confess that though we know of our end, to dwell with you forever, we often find ourselves looking to the affairs of this life, placing too much confidence and trust in them. We so often forget that we are called to rid our lives of all that competes for our affection — affection that should be devoted to you alone. We easily forget the promise of the New Heavens and the New Earth and fail to seek first the heavenly kingdom of righteousness and truth. Forgive us, Father, and cleanse us from all unrighteousness.
We ask that you would be pleased to save our loved ones. We plead with you to do for them what you have done for us, making them alive in Christ and resurrecting their wills and birthing them from above by your Holy Spirit. Convince them of their sin and misery and that tragic end if they were to die today without the Savior. We pray all of these things in the Name of the glorious and risen Lord. Amen.
