Prayer: Preserve me, O God, for in you we take refuge as we pilgrim through this life full of treachery and danger. Without you, there would be no reason to go on. We would grow weary and faint under the weight of this life as we struggle through attacks from enemies, illness, suffering, and death. Clearly, those who seek after idols are multiplying and, therefore, our sorrows increase. Yet, we know that you sit on the throne and will never be moved. You are the king of glory and rule over your creation as you see fit. Therefore, we set you before us and shall never be moved. You will never abandon your people to utter ruin because you have promised us the hope of eternity with you.
We confess that we are sometimes shaken at the state of our world. WE grieve what we are witnessing. We see the consequences of those who deny you and rebel against you. We are witnessing the proof of your Word each day, and we mourn the effects of sin in the lives of those made in your image. We confess that we are sometimes brought to worry and fear what man will do. We are slow to learn though we know the truth of your Word. Forgive us, Father. Please grant us peace as we trust you. Be pleased, our God, to work mightily in people’s lives through the hope that only the gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ can bring. These things we pray in the name of the King of kings and Lord of lords, Jesus Christ the righteous. Amen.
