Prayer: Our glorious God in heaven: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we praise your name and thank you for your mercies extended to us each day. Like the Psalmist, we have many reasons to recount your wonderful works and deeds. There are many reasons for us to be thankful with our whole hearts as we pilgrim through this life. You have blessed us with your beloved Son, who, like us, lived in this world and experienced the many trials and temptations we face. You have called us into your presence and freed us from the tyranny of sin and the fear of death. You have made promises to us that will never fail or falter. Each day you grace us with your renewed faithfulness, and each moment you are present to hear us as we call out to you. You have called us your treasured possession and the apple of your eye. You have promised us the hope of the New Heavens and the New Earth and eternity with you where there is no more sin, sorrow, tears, or pain. Indeed, it is glorious because you are there!

There are innumerable reasons for us to sing with joy to you; therefore, we sing because you are worthy of this expression of our hearts to you. Yet, Father, there are too many times when we forget to be thankful but grumble and complain about our circumstances. Instead of praising you, we murmur. Instead of trusting you, we worry and grow anxious. Instead of praying, we gripe about things we cannot control. We forget that our lives are in your hands. Like the children of old, we draw your wrath and displeasure when we sin in this way. Forgive us! Please help us often reflect on your marvelous work and countless blessings for the sake of your Son in whose name we pray. Amen.
