Prayer: Give to ear to our groanings, our God, and hear us when we cry out to you for the sake of our souls and the good of your people. We are thankful that we can order our prayers in the morning and then watch and see how you answer them throughout our day. You are kind to us, not treating us as our sins deserve. Yet, we live in a world of unrighteousness. The depravity of men made in your image is shocking to witness. They call what you say is evil and abominable — good, and they call those things you have declared to be true and right — evil. Your Word tells us that you are not a God who delights in wickedness. Yet, we see it day after day. We live in a sinful and adulterous generation that rebels against you and erects themselves against you and your anointed Son. Your Word tells us that you will destroy the wicked who pour out lies and work to trouble the bride of your Son. Your Word tells us that you have put all things in subjection to him, but we do not see it at present. We live in a fallen and sin-wrecked world, and it sometimes causes us to fret and grow weary.
Forgive us, Father, for not trusting you with every issue and every calamity. We know you are sovereign, and we know that you are working all things according to the counsel of your own will for your glory and the good of your people. We believe! Help our unbelief. Therefore, holy Father, help us to take refuge in your today. Please grant us the willingness to rejoice at the work of your hands and sing for joy because you have promised us great things and told us to look forward to the great day when you usher us into your eternal presence. We thank you for covering us with a shield and sustaining the righteous. These things we pray, in the name of the Lord and King of the church, Jesus Christ the righteous. Amen.
