Prayer: Our God of the covenant who has promised good things for his people, we come to you as your children today to praise you for your marvelous deeds. You have revealed yourself to the whole world in creation. We behold your glory at the rising of the sun and the changing of the seasons. You have further revealed yourself in the person of your Son and the Word written for your people. We thank you that today — the queen of days — we are invited to come and praise you as the one true God of heaven and earth, the creator and sustainer and the giver of life to all those whom you have determined to save.
Forgive us, Father, for the many ways in which we trample underfoot the beauty that is the Lord’s Day. Forgive us for talking idly, doing our pleasure, and not considering you in acts of public and private worship. Help us, by your Spirit, to love this day that you have given to us to remind us of that glorious day when we will worship you with the myriads of angels and men called and redeemed by your Son. We pray this in Christs’ Name. Amen.
