Prayer: Our Father, you are a kind and compassionate God who has not treated us as our sins deserve. You are slow to anger and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. Though we are often faithless, you remain faithful to your people. Indeed your mercies are new to us every morning. You provide your Word for your people and your sheep under-shepherds of the Great Shepherd of the Sheep. We thank you for the many ways you hold us firm on the path that leads to life. Through the ministry of your church – prayer, the sacraments, and the preaching of your Word — you hold us in your hand and persevere us to our heavenly rest. Though we are sheep and often go astray, we thank you that you forgive us and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. We thank you for your beloved Son, who is compassionate to sinners, and always willing to hear us as we cry out to him. We thank you that he has demonstrated his compassion to us in difficult and trying days. Be merciful to us, our Father! Please give us more of your grace so we can walk according to your holy Word. Hear our cries, our Father, and pour out your Spirit upon us we ask for Christ’s sake. Amen.
