Prayer: Grant to your redeemed people, O Lord, the eyes to see the wonderous works you display each day in the heavens and the earth you have made. The heavens declare your glory, and the sky above proclaims your handiwork. Each day we see, and in seeing, we hear, that you are our God and there is no other. Through your creation, you declare your presence and power, and it leaves all men without excuse before you. Further, you are pleased to condescend to our lowly estate in giving us your Word written and contained in the Holy Scriptures. Through them, we are warned and instructed in those things that are agreeable to your will. Therefore, we thank you, Father, for giving us your Word in our language. We thank you for it because it is perfect because you are perfect. We praise you for using it to open our eyes and bring us into union and communion with you. We stand in awe of your work as written in your Word — a work that shows from beginning to end you desire to redeem a sinful people to yourself through the work of the Lord Jesus Christ. Therefore, Father, help us to cherish your Word as greater than all the riches of this life. May you move us to read, study, and meditate on it. Please bring forth fruit from it in the reading and preaching of your Word each Lord’s Day. These things we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
