Prayer: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name, your kingdom come, your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. We give you thanks for your many mercies and the grace you extend to your adopted children each day. We thank you for loving us with an eternal love and rescuing us from a world of sin and misery by giving us the hope of Christ and the promise of an eternity in your comfortable presence. We know that it was your will to open our eyes and heart to the truth of your Word. As such, we have no reason to boast or be proud. We have nothing to offer you, for we are creatures of dust. Therefore, we know that our eyes have no reason to look too highly, and our hearts have no reason to be filled with pride because you alone have given to us the life we now live. Forgive us, Father, for the many times we have walked, talked, and behaved like arrogant fools. Forgive us, Father, for the times when we have acted in arrogance before you. As those who have tasted your goodness, we know that we can take no credit for your marvelous work. You alone deserve our praise and adoration. Please help us to quiet ourselves and all swelling thoughts we may have and sit quietly before you, contemplating your grace and favor given to helpless sinners. Please cause us to love you like a child loves a mother and give us that simple child-like faith that pleases you. Please grant us the hope of your promises and a better grasp of that love that will persevere us to the end. We pray for these things through Christ our Lord. Amen.
