Prayer: We thank you, our God, because you are kind and gracious, not treating us as our sins deserve. Like your servant of old, a man after your heart, we, too, know that we sin daily in thought, word, and deed. We are ashamed at how easily we transgress your law and wander from your commandments. Yet, you are our God who has rescued us from the dominion of sin and delight in forgiving us out of your great love for your Son and us. We know that you forgive us, not because there is anything worthy in us, but because you accept the perfect sacrifice of your only begotten Son who offered his life as a ransom for many. Indeed, holy Father, it pleased you from all eternity to purpose to send our Savior to rescue us. As helpless lambs, we often stray, but your Son is the lover of our souls and seeks us out and restores us to his pasture. Please help us, Father, to keep short accounts of sin. Please help us to forsake them and resist the temptation to cover them and hide them from you. Please give us peace as we acknowledge and confess our sin, knowing that you forgive and cleanse us from all unrighteousness. Because you are gracious to us, we can rejoice — and we do! We rejoice in you, our God, and your great salvation in Christ Jesus our Lord. These things we pray through his name only. Amen.
