Prayer: We thank you and praise your name, our most loving and kind God, because you have provided us with everything necessary to help us in our pilgrimage in this sin-wrecked world. We are thankful that You did not leave us to wander in darkness, but through Your powerful Word, you gave us the light of Your truth that guides our path all our days. We further thank you for giving us your church – the fellowship of the redeemed of the Lord – where we gather each Lord’s day to worship you and hear from you as your Word is read and preached. Yet, Father, we confess that we cannot always say, “I was glad when they said to me, let us go to the house of the Lord.” We confess that there are times when we go through the motions as we come before you in corporate worship. We confess that there are times when our hearts are far from you. We confess that we sometimes praise you without thinking of what we are singing. Sadly, Father, we often hear from you in the reading and preaching of your Word and fail to listen and do what you hear. Forgive us, Father. Please grant us hearts zealous for your worship each Lord’s Day. Please cause us to long for it, seek it, and prepare for it each week.
We pray for your church and ask that you will work mightily through her and help her to seek first your kingdom and righteousness. We know that your people are often distracted by the cares of this life. We are ashamed of how much effort we put into those things that pass away. Please cause your church to labor faithfully for the cause of Christ and the Gospel of peace. Please strengthen your ministers as they bring the hope of Christ to the ears of your people. Please grant your redeemed people a great love for the church of the Lord Jesus, and may you cause her to glorify you in all things. We pray for these things through Christ our Lord. Amen.
