Prayer: Our most holy and gracious God, you who are mighty and powerful, the one true God of heaven and earth and the Creator and sustainer of all things, we gladly and humbly bow before your throne in that Most Holy Place to unite our hearts to you and plead with you for a just cause. We come desirous to ask of you those things agreeable to your will. We thank you for your Word that guides our prayers and gives light to our pilgrimage. As we wander this life, we are reminded by the words of the Psalmist that we live in perilous days. We are often attacked, and we are often mistreated, but it is to you that we take refuge. Yet, we are mindful of our sinful hearts and the blackness that still resides due to indwelling sin. We are reminded that we, too, like the wicked, can do horrible things to our friends, families, church members, and those who oppose us. If these things are true of us, Lord, and if we have not treated others with kindness and compassion, please forgive us. We know that you are a just Judge, and we stand in fear of you as the One who tests the hearts of men. Therefore, Father, please purify our minds and hearts today so that we will run to you as a shield and be comforted by your tender care. Please help us to thank you for your infinite mercies due to your righteousness and help us to praise you for who you are and what you do for us. These things we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
