Prayer: Our gracious Father in heaven, we exalt your holy name and praise you because you have revealed yourself to your people. Through the world you have made, and especially through the Word you have written, you have told us who you are — a God who is merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness. Indeed, your mercies are new every morning. Because of your kindness, we have been made to see the beauty of the Gospel as our eyes and ears have been opened to see what it is that you require of us. Through the work of your beloved Son, we are no longer fools who deny you but sons who love you and desire to do all that you have commanded us. Yet, we do fall short, and we readily confess that to you, our God. We sin daily in thought, word, and deed. Though we rejoice at your grace, we mourn the indwelling sin that prevents us from loving you and others as you have commended and demanded. We long to do so perfectly, and we look forward to that day when we will perfectly obey the New Heavens and the New Earth. Until then, Father, be pleased to give us what you command and grant to us more of your Spirit that we would be sanctified completely. These things we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
