Prayer: Our Father, your Word declares that only a fool says in his heart, “there is no God.” Yet, there was a time when we lived as though you did not exist. We were corrupt, abominable, and not doing good. Our efforts and labors in this life were counted as filthy rags. Yet, we have reason to rejoice today because your mercy and grace changed the disposition of our hearts. At one time, we were blind, but now we see. Instead of declaring foolish things, you have changed our minds through your Word to declare that there is one true God and there is no other.

Through the work of the Lord Jesus Christ, we now have peace with you. Instead of rejecting our efforts and labors, you now accept them in Christ. Though imperfect are our efforts, you are pleased to receive them as an act of love toward you. Yet, we still sin daily in thought, word, and deed. There are times, Father, when we are practical atheists. Sometimes we act like fools when we do not trust you and lean upon you for a right understanding of things. Though we do these things, we know you accept us. We are thankful that there is no longer condemnation for those who are united to Christ. For this, we rejoice and give praise to you. We thank you for your forgiveness and for not treating us as fools who deny you but as sons and daughters adopted into your family. Please grant to us what you command. Please give us more of your Spirit that we might do what you tell us rooted in a heart of love toward you for what you do for us. These things we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
