Prayer: Our God, we know and confess that it is you who establishes kings, presidents, and all those in authority over us. We know that your Word teaches us that they are ministers of the Most High God and, therefore, are called to do your holy bidding in the affairs of men. Yet, we see that often, they do things that do not agree with your Word. They often commit their hands to laws that disagree with the plain teachings of the Holy Scriptures. Too often, Father, they boast and brag about themselves and behave in such a way that loudly proclaims, “There is no God.” In many nations, your people are under assault by the efforts of the wicked, whether from kings or princes — these assaults are real, and they grieve us. Therefore, we pray as the psalmist prayed, “O Lord, how long shall the wicked, how long shall the wicked exult?” We ask you to intervene for the sake of the Gospel of the Lord Jesus Christ and the good of your redeemed and cherished people. We ask that you stand with a ready sword to defend your church from the efforts of the godless and wicked. We ask that you catch them in their ways and turn them from all so the kingdom of your dear Son would go on unfettered by these evil people. We also pray that you would rescue them from their sin and save them as you have us. We ask that the Eternal Spirit would open their eyes and ears and overwhelm their hearts, minds, and conscience with the brevity of life and the terrors of hell. Please, our God, we ask that you put the fear of the Lord in them so they would not face a terrible, tragic, and unnecessary end. These things we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
