Prayer: Great are you LORD, and greatly to be praised because of your great and glorious work of establishing your church, a people of your own making and possession. We thank you for guiding and defending your people from the onslaught of the wicked and unrighteous. You have offered comfort and hope to weak and weary sinners within her gates. We look, and we see the greatness of the city because you are there, and she shall never be moved. Therefore, we are moved in our inner being to praise you, and due to your steadfast love, that never changes. We look, and we behold your majesty reaching the ends of the earth. Therefore, we are glad, rejoice, and speak of your greatness to our children and our children’s children. Forgive us, Father, for our casual and careless approach to your worship. Instead of coming with great delight, we often enter with cold hearts. Forgive us for not treating your church with the admiration and respect it deserves. We know that the church is yours, for you established her through the work of he who is the king and Head of the church. Therefore, help us to love your church which is called by your name. May we honor her, defend her, and praise you for her.
As we prepare to ascend your holy mountain on the holiest of days, may you grant us ready minds and willing hearts to hear what you have to say through the preaching of your Word. Please grant us ears to hear and do all we hear, and may we see your glory — the beauty of your greatness and majesty as we gather with your people to praise you. These things we pray through Christ our Lord. Amen.
