Prayer: Sovereign God and Father of all creation, the only true and living God, we bless your name today because you are worthy of our praise and adoration. Your Word tells us that there is no God like you: “The LORD, the LORD, a God merciful and gracious, slow to anger, and abounding in steadfast love and faithfulness, keeping steadfast love for thousands, forgiving iniquity and transgression and sin, but who will by no means clear the guilty, visiting the iniquity of the fathers on the children and the children’s children, to the third and the fourth generation.” Because you have revealed yourself to sinful creatures and told us who you are, you are worthy of our worship. We thank you that you are a God who delights in the forgiveness of sin. We thank you that you have not treated us as our sins deserve. We confess that we often stray from your commands, but we are humbled at your patience with us.
Today we pray for our nation and its leaders. We are grieved at the wickedness that surrounds us. We plead with you to help and act against men and women that you have placed in authority over us that reject your Word, live as though you do not exist, act foolishly, and heap burdens upon your people. We plead with you to change their cold, dead hearts and make them alive by your Holy Spirit. We ask that you would bring the truth of the gospel to bear on them. We ask that you would honor and exalt your name in their lives and actions. Please, Father, grant to us godly leaders and protect your church from foolish ones. We pray these things in the name of our Lord and Savior, the King of kings and Lord of lords. Amen.
