Prayer: Our kind and benevolent God in heaven, you who are alone glorious and majestic, we bow before you at the beginning of another week. We adore you because of your kindness to your people. Yesterday, you blessed us with the Word of God preached — that living voice of the Good Shepherd to his people. We thank you that you have given us your Holy Spirit so we may understand your Word. We thank you for your Word because it is a light to our path, and it guides us and teaches us what you demand of your creatures.
Father, we confess to you that we do not always love and adore your Word. We frequently offer excuses about why we do not meditate on it day and night. We often provide our lame reasons for not reading and studying it. Sadly, we do not always take advantage of the primary means of grace – the preaching of your Word. Forgive us. Grant to us more zeal and desire to drink deeply from the living Word. We pray this in Christs’ Name. Amen.
Scripture Meditation: Psa. 8; John 10; Psa. 119:105; Luke 8:15; James 1:25
NOTE: Starting tomorrow (Apr. 21, 2020) I will return to the series of prayers through the Westminster Shorter Catechism.
