Prayer: Father in heaven, we glorify your holy name this morning even as the angels encircle your throne proclaiming, “Holy, holy, holy is the Lord of hosts. The whole earth is full of your glory.” We thank you for your sovereign work of creation and providence. We are grateful that though man orders his days, you direct his steps. We are thankful to you that your promises belong to us, and that you never change, your faithfulness is new every morning.
We confess to you our sins of omission and commission. We grieve the fact that no mere man is able perfectly in this life to keep your righteous laws. We long for that day when the church militant will be the church at rest. We thank you that you are a God who is quick to forgive us from sin and unrighteousness due to the blood of your beloved Son, the Lord Jesus Christ.
We pray for our world and the tragedy of man’s rebellion against you. We ask that you would be pleased to save wicked and evil people from their sin and turn them to the one who offers real peace and help for their soul. Vindicate your name, O Lord. Be gracious to sinners and glorify your name in all the earth. We pray this in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ. Amen.
Scripture Meditation: Isa. 6:1-3; Prov. 16:9; Eccles. 7:20; Gen. 8:21; James 3:8; James 3:2
Prayer: Our blessed God in heaven: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we praise your Name today because you have granted us rest and prepared us for worship on the Lord’s Day. We thank you that you have given to us one day in seven in which we can gather with your people to worship you. You alone are worthy of being praised and adored. You have revealed yourself through creation, and each day we behold your beauty and know it comes from your hands as you have told us in your Word. We are humbled at your majesty as we see the sunrise and sunset each day. Indeed, you have made these things so that all the earth will praise you.
We confess to you our weaknesses and shortcomings. There is not a day that goes by that we do not sin in thought, word, and deed. We violate your law with our actions and words. We sometimes use our words unwisely. We allow coarse jesting to creep into our conversations. We do not measure carefully the things that we say. We pray that you would forgive us and help us to erect a sentry over our mouths.
We ask that you would be glorified in all that we do today. May you be honored and worshiped as you people gather to adore you. We pray in Christs’ Name. Amen.
Prayer: Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name. Your kingdom come. Your will be done on earth as it is in heaven. We are thankful that you are our Father. We are grateful that you have redeemed us and called us to be adopted as sons and daughters of the Most High God. We bow before you knowing that you stand ready and able to help us in all of our needs and concerns. You have invited us to cast our cares upon you because you care for us.
We confess to you our lack of prayer. We are ashamed at how often we spend time on frivolous things instead of pleading with you for the things that we need. We are dependent creatures, and we need your wisdom, kindness, and grace in the world in which we live. We confess that your church has been prayerless. We know that you have told us and shown us in your Word to pray and plead with you, the God of heaven. We ask that you would forgive us and grant us your Holy Spirit to help us to pray before you each day, often, alone and in the prayer meetings of the church. We are ashamed at the number of churches that have abandoned corporate prayer. We realize that our troubles in this life are born out of a lack of zeal for this priority. Help us! Be gracious to us and bless those of your people that labor in their knees day after day. We pray this in Christs’ Name. Amen.
Scripture Meditation: Matt. 6; Eph. 1; Rom. 8:15; 1 Pet. 5:7; Acts 1:12-14; 12:1-11
Prayer: Father in heaven, we praise your name today because you are good and kind, a God of steadfast love and compassion. You have redeemed a people and established a holy people chosen by sovereign mercy. Because of your love demonstrated on the offering of your Son, we have peace with you. We thank you that he is the king and head of the church — a church that will never fail.
We confess to you our transgressions and sin. Often our minds and hearts are drawn to the fleeting things of this life. Forgive us. Help us to set our minds on things above.
We pray for your church. We ask that you would guide and direct her. Help your elders and pastors to shepherd your people with love and care. Give wisdom to these men as they seek to be faithful to you and guide your people, especially in these difficult days. Help ministers as they prepare to preach your Word. Grant to them insight and wisdom. Give them your Spirit so they may carefully and adequately interpret your Word. We pray these things in Christs’ Name. Amen.
Scripture Meditation: Ex. 34:1-9; Eph. 1; Rom. 5:8; 1 Pet. 2:9-10; Matt. 16:18; Col. 3; Acts 20:28
Prayer: Our God in heaven: Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, we bow before you today, humbled by your majesty and sovereignty. We adore you because you are most worthy of it. You alone are sovereign, and there is no authority other than what comes from you. You have established the nations and placed men in positions of authority in our world. Though these men fail to honor you and minister for you as they should, we know that they are in your hand, and you turn them wherever you desire. We confess that we do not pray for our leaders as often as we should. We have been commanded in your word to pray for “kings and all in high positions that we may lead a peaceful and quiet life.” We confess to our shame that we spend too much time on social media complaining about the affairs of this life and far too little time on our knees, pleading with the alone and absolute sovereign of heaven and earth. Forgive us for our poor use of time. Forgive us for our lack of prayer for our leaders, Forgive us for not turning to you with pleading hearts for the issues of our day.
We pray this day for our leaders. We ask that you would turn their hearts to the truth of Christ. We desire them to see their need of the Savior because we know that he alone can cure what ails our land. We desire to see these men in high positions who bear your image find the peace that can only come from the gospel of the Lord Jesus. We pray this in his Name. Amen.
Scripture Meditation: Psa. 29; Dan. 4; Psa. 115:3; 1 Tim. 6:15; Rom. 13; 1 Tim. 2:1-3
Prayer: Father, we give you praise for your infinite mercy and grace and for demonstrating your love to us that when we were still sinners, Christ died for us. We praise you because you are holy, and we thank you that you have redeemed us and called us to yourself. We confess to you that we are often faithless in thought, word, or deed. We ask that you would forgive us and help us to be holy as you are holy.
We pray for our friends and loved ones that do not know you. We pray that you would open their eyes and their hearts to the truth of the gospel. Help them to see their dangerous state and their awful end if they do not receive and rest alone on Christ. We know that we are not capable of changing the hearts of men. We plead with you to do this great work for your glory and honor. We pray these things in Christs’ Name. Amen.
